Is it legal to hold a raffle in Michigan?

How long does it take to get a Michigan gaming license?

It typically takes between three to four months to get a Michigan Gaming License after receiving all the necessary supporting materials and verified application information. After submitting the application and paying the applicable fees, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) will review the application materials, property plans and background information.

The MGCB may also want to conduct an on-site review and audit before processing the license. During this process, the MGCB checks the applicant’s complete background to ascertain that the applicant, business entity, and/or all principals meet the licensure standards for operators.

When all information has been collected and all requirements are met, the MGCB typically issues a license within three to four months.

Do you need permission to fundraise?

Yes, you usually need permission to fundraise. Depending on where and how you are fundraising, you could be required to obtain a permit or license. For example, in the US, if you plan to solicit donations, the state may require you to obtain a license.

This is because laws regulating charities and fundraisers vary from state to state. Similarly, any fundraising activities that involve selling goods and services will likely require you to obtain a license from the city or county in which you are fundraising.

Other activities, such as raffles and carnivals, may also require a permit. Check with your local government offices to determine what permits you may need for your fundraising efforts. Finally, in some cases, you may need to get permission from the owners of the premises that you intend to use for the fundraiser.
