How long is oak and Eden bourbon aged?

Oak & Eden bourbon is aged for two years in American white oak barrels. After the two-year maturation period, each bottle is finished with a charred stave of white oak, adding more nuanced flavor and smoothness.

The staving process is unique as each bottle is finished with a full 12-inch stave, as opposed to the 2-5 inch staves used in traditional finishing. This longer contact of barrel char for each bottle results in richer, fuller flavors and complexity.

In addition to the time spent in an American white oak barrel, Oak & Eden also ages their bourbon in a hybrid Spanish oak barrel referred to as the Eden Barrel. This barrel is constructed from 21 staves of both American white oak and Spanish sherry oak.

This hybrid barrel process yields additional complexity and body to the already smooth, rich flavors of the standard Oak & Eden bourbon. The secondary maturation in the Eden Barrel contributes an intense and balanced flavor profile, resulting in a perfectly-aged, incredibly balanced bourbon.

Can bourbon be aged less than 2 years?

Yes, bourbon can be aged less than two years. In fact, some bourbons are aged even shorter than one year. However, the majority of bourbons are aged for at least two years, and some are aged for much longer.

An important distinction when discussing bourbons that have been aged for less than two years is that, in order for it to be labeled as “bourbon” on the label, at least 51% of the mash bill must be made of corn.

Pros usually consider bourbons aged less than two years to be young and unrefined, with a less complex flavor than those that have been aged for two or more years. Young bourbon often has a sharper, spicier taste and a smoother finish.

The best way to discover which types of bourbons appeal to your own tastes is to sample a variety of both younger and older bourbons yourself.
